Gold Standards Framework programmes and accreditation

We have the resource and experience to work with you to meet the specific need of those accessing your care setting - whether primary care, the acute sector, a prison or a community hospital.

We also have a proven track record in our delivery with care homes, domiciliary care agencies and retirement villages.

Our experience has informed, shaped and developed programmes for all health and social care settings. We will work with you and build a bespoke programme to support you to offer good end of life care.

Please contact us to discuss your practice area and find out more about how we can help you make this vital difference to care.

The following three step programme ensures we meet all aspects of provision for health and social care in light of Covid 19. The core principles however remain the same – to ensure that anyone, no matter who they are, receives the very best end of life care.

Silver training programme - for organisations

The silver programme will support you to improve end of life care using Quality Improvement methodology.

It will give opportunity to gather data to demonstrate organisational change. The programme is designed to be delivered by four face-to-face workshops, or as 7 webinars for up to 50 delegates, and as a distance learning package for primary care teams.

The key workshop topics areas covered include:

  • Overview of end of life care:  how implementing GSF will help improve end of life care. Baseline data is also gathered to enable you to evidence improvement;
  • Identifying the needs of individuals and provide support in a systematic way;
  • Exploring the place of Advance Care Planning (ACP) and ensuring all residents are offered the opportunity to engage in ACP;
  • Enabling people to live well until they die, focusing on their physical, social, spiritual and emotional wellbeing;
  • Caring for the dying – aligning our practice to current NICE guidance and Ambitions for palliative and end of life care;
  • Supporting families and carers through grief loss and bereavement, enabling a compassionate system;
  • Effective leadership and embedding GSF through evaluation of every day practice.

Gold training programme - for organisations

The Gold Programme leads to the opportunity to gain GSF Accreditation. It builds on your success within the silver programme, and through additional support and further webinars, enables you to submit to be awarded the Quality Hallmark Award.

On completion of the Gold programme, organisations are encouraged and supported to embed their learning into practice before applying for accreditation. Accreditation rounds are twice a year every spring and autumn.

Organisations that have completed the training will be invited to apply for accreditation and offered a refresher session where representatives for the various organisations can go through the accreditation process prior to registration.

There are four parts to the accreditation process:

  • Data capture: organisational and patient level
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Assessment visit
  • Independent panel – adjudicates the result
Over 800 teams have achieved GSF Accreditation.

GSF Accreditation is recognised by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulator as an information source for CQC inspection and endorsed by many, including the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), Care England, the British Geriatrics Society, the Community Hospital Association (CHA), and the Associated Retirement Community Operators.

How long does our accreditation last?

The accreditation award lasts for three years at which point organisations will be invited to reapply. There are a growing number of organisations that are applying for re-accreditation, with some organisations being accredited for 12 years demonstrating the sustainability of GSF.

We believe everyone, no matter who they are should receive the very best end of life care.
