How our grants work

We receive funding for the grants we provide from other charitable trusts and foundations, so specific criteria apply each year. Each programme will have its own application form, criteria, guidelines and deadline.

The criteria for each programme are agreed by the Hospice UK Governance Committee and each respective funder, taking into account any restrictions the funders may include.

Who can apply?

Our member organisations and their staff can apply for grants to help them undertake specific capital projects, develop new or existing services for the people they care for and their families, and increase their expertise in the work they do.

Non-member organisations offering palliative care services are also eligible to apply for grants, depending on the criteria of the grant programme.

Apply for a grant

To apply for our grants, please see the list of open grants, read the descriptions and eligibility criteria and then click apply. You will then be redirected to our Hospice UK Grants Portal to complete your application.
You can also log-in to our Grants portal to monitor your existing applications and finish any that are incomplete.

International grants

Hospice UK has a history of running an international grants programme, however the programme is now closed and we do not expect this to re-open.

Case Studies

Over the years, our grants programmes have enabled hundreds of pioneering projects in hospices across the UK, which have driven innovation in hospice care and helped more people to get the care they want and need at the end of their lives.

Read about some of the incredible projects Hospice UK has supported in partnership with the CSiS Charity Fund, the Rank Foundation, St. James’s Place Foundation, and the Wolfson Foundation.

General hospice grants and regional focus – Rank Foundation

As part of Hospice UK’s partnership with the Rank Foundation, Bethesda Hospice on the Isle of Lewis was awarded a grant of £9,901 to develop their treatment and therapy facilities.

Before receiving their grant, the hospice had four inpatient rooms which were often very busy, meaning that day patients who needed treatments such as infusions had to wait until one of the inpatient rooms became free – or even travel to the mainland for treatment.

Thanks to the Rank Foundation and Hospice UK, Bethesda Hospice created a day treatment and therapy room, enabling patients to receive treatments whenever they need them and much faster than before – as well as enabling the hospice to expand the range of treatment and therapies they can offer to the community.

The staff at Bethesda have also found that the day room means they often meet new patients at an earlier stage of their illness, which gives both patients and staff the chance to get to know each other, discuss their needs and concerns, and make plans to ensure everyone gets the care they want.
